Arrived safely in Big Springs, Texas.  Drove almost solely on I-20 the whole way.  When we got west of the Dallas area, the elevation started climbing to well over 1,000 feet as we approached the Abilene area, where it also started to rain.  (Big Springs elevation is 2,441 feet.)  Very windy drive.  There were even permanent road signs warning of strong wind currents.  Acres of wind turbines were seen on the left and right.  A lot of traffic and many large trucks all the way.

I had been wondering when things would look like west Texas, the sagebrush, etc.  About 20 miles east of Big Springs I saw sagebrush on the hills.  Still a lot hillier than I thought Texas would be, but not as green and not as many trees.  No longhorn cattle yet.

Our GPS sent us right on by the entry to the RV park.  We were a little shocked at its appearance as we drove by the fenced in side along the highway, looking for somewhere to turn the rig around and head back to the entrance.  We spotted another RV park, turned in there, made a successful U-turn, and headed back out to the service road.  The second park was far worse than the one we have.  The reviews were good for ours, and compared to the other park, it is outstanding.  The manager was very kind and helpful, as was his assistant, loaning us a TV cable to use for free.  Only $30 for full hookups, so a good deal.

Our slot for the night.  Not too bad.

The view from the service road.  Does not look promising.
