LARAMIE, WY. Today we drove I-80 in an increasingly strong and turbulent wind. The stretch between Rock Springs and Rawlins is statistically the worst in the state, with Rawlins being the worst town, but east of Rawlins was even worse today. Electronic signboards over he interstate kept saying, along with there being an extreme fire danger, to expect wind gusts of 50+ mph. And we got the wind gusts, but thankfully not any fires, though haze returned in the sky as we approached Laramie.
One good news point is that the engine warning light went out about an hour after leaving the park this morning. About 100 miles west of Laramie we stopped for diesel fuel in Sinclair, WY, where there is a Sinclair oil refinery adjacent to the Sinclair gas and diesel station. We who live in the east think that Sinclair is an extinct brand name, but it is everywhere in the west and even have at least one of their own refineries.
I managed to get in touch with Lincare in Laramie while on the road. They have a replacement CPAP mask that I need, so I said that I would drive on over there once we settled in the KOA park in Laramie. That was foiled by the Jeep giving us strange new error messages as we tried to set it up for normal driving. The manual had nothing to say about this message, so I searched the web and found similar complaints about the Cherokee's electronics. Most hinted at a bad battery, but I suspected that it had only run down in charge after being towed behind the motorhome several days without starting. Thankfully we had the jump-start pack with us, and the car started with it. After running a while, the error message went away and we could go through the steps to set the car up for normal driving. Too late to get the mask tonight (they close at 5 pm) but we can drive over in the morning. One more instance of how this year's adventure differs from last year's when almost everything went without a hitch. Betty and I noted that last year we had a Christian house-sitter who upheld us in prayer every day. Betty called her to ask that she start praying for us again. We need it.
Since the car started, we went grocery shopping at Safeway. This is about as good a grocer as you can find out west. Thank God we have Publix in Florida.
