NANTICOKE, MD.  Drove in a downpour once again, this time through the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel (CBBT) to the Eastern Shore of Virginia, then up to the Eastern Shore of Maryland and the Roaring Point Waterfront Campground.  And since we arrived yesterday (Nov 5) it has been a roaring point along the Nanticoke River, overlooking Tangier Bay which leads out to the Chesapeake Bay.  It is not all that cold, but very wet and windy.  We were joking a while ago that perhaps it was not a good idea to start off our trip in July by visiting the Ark Encounter, since so much of what has followed has made us feel like Noah on his voyage.

Rainy Entrance to Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel
The CBBT was under construction, and the restaurant and large parking area on the center island were closed due to parking all the construction equipment there.  I had wanted to show this to Betty, but weather and construction got in the way. The actual tunnel is two-lane traffic, so traffic from the bridge each way was re-routed to one of the lanes of the tunnel.  On the bridges it was still four-lane traffic, but re-routed as the bridges led to the tunnels where it was two-way traffic.

It was a long drive through the Eastern Shore of Virginia before we got to the Maryland border.  Not very interesting in the rain.

Two-way Traffic in Tunnels
There was actually another tunnel as big as either of those on the CBBT that led into Norfolk. I do not recall seeing that on my last trip in 1999.

Today we shall pursue some indoor activity if we find it is not calming down enough to venture out.
