HOMER, AK (Day 5).  We drove over to nearby Beluga Lake to catch an early flight in a 10-passenger plane to Katmai National Park.  Our primary aim was to visit Brooks Falls, where the large Alaskan Brown Bears feast on migrating salmon that leap up the falls.  What we did not know was that the volume of migrating salmon drops off after July.  We could see a few red Sockeye Salmon under the water, but only Silver Salmon were jumping while we were there, and they jumped only once in a while.  Thus, we had far fewer photo opps than anticipated, but the crowds were thinner.

That morning during our flight out to Katmai, the following scenes were part of the joy of the trip.

As we neared Beluga Lake to land after our trip, I looked out toward Homer Spit where our RVs were parked.  I shot the following photo of Homer Spit in good light.

Photos from an airplane are clearly better.
