ALLENTOWN, PA.  Drove about six hours today through very strong wind gusts, but the sun was out and skies were clear all the way.  Stopped to refuel along I-84 and after we parked, a very long flatbed truck pulled in next to us at an angle that appeared to prevent him from getting all the way through and pinned us in as well.  The driver said that he could not back out, and we also could not back up without bending the tow bars.  We wanted him to back out the way he came in, but he went back in behind his wheel and proceeded forward slowly as we watched aghast thinking for sure he would scrape along the side of our motorhome.  He passed so closely that you could not have slid a sheet of paper between us.  We gasped one giant sigh of relief after that.  One more Providential deliverance, of which we have had many.

The ride today was the longest drive for us ever.  I had used Google maps to estimate how long it would be, but it (like every other GPS) embedded the assumption that we would drive through NYC, which apparently is the shortest route from New England to eastern Pennsylvania.  We, however, had no intention of driving a motorhome through NYC.  Thus, we re-routed around it and picked up many more miles of travel in the process.  Both my motorhome GPS and Google maps continually tried to wrestle us back onto a route through NYC the whole way.

When we got here to the Allentown KOA, we were greeted in the office by two 20-somethings in Halloween costumes, though it is only Oct 12th.  Every feature of their faces was pierced with metal objects which flopped as they talked.  I began to wonder if they dressed like this all year long.  In our travels through the Northeast, we have observed a near sacred holiday affection for Halloween.

Tomorrow we leave for Gettysburg where we shall visit with old friends who used to live in St Augustine.
