BAR HARBOR Days 2 & 3.  Sunday the 7th we determined that we should attend the Orthodox Presbyterian Church in Rockport, but since it was a long drive there and back, and we are not early risers, we should attend the 6:00 pm evening service rather than the morning service.  To fill in the day before that, we drove down to Camden, a very beautiful town near Rockport, to see if the sky might clear up enough to allow some good fall color photos.  We drove up Mt. Battie to shoot wide shots of Camden, but the clouds refused to clear, actually getting worse.  We shot some photos nevertheless, then drove on down to Camden, which was just as crowded as Bar Harbor.  Unlike 15 years ago when I was there last, Columbus Day weekend has become as popular as Labor Day weekend to squeeze in some last recreation before winter sets in.  We need to remember this in the future and time our visits to be after Columbus Day weekend is over.  The many stores that used to close after Columbus Day now stay open much longer, and even cruise ships pull in one after another unloading hundreds of shoppers in Bar Harbor long after the holiday.

By around 3:00 pm the sun came out, but we were not going back up Mt. Battie, so walked around the streets of Camden shooting photos.

It took two hours to get to Camden from Bar Harbor, and it slowly dawned on us that to return there before dark we must leave by 4:00 pm, thus ruling out the evening service in Rockport.  Thus, as ridiculous as it all sounds, we never made it to church on Sunday.

Monday the 8th began as a gloriously sunny clear day and remained that way all day.  We spent the day in Acadia National Park, mostly driving up to Cadillac Mountain to shoot photos from the summit, then to Jordan Pond to walk around the pond to shoot fall colors.  We also did some shopping in the Jordan Pond gift shop.  We finished off the day having supper at the Route 66 Restaurant, a 50's theme eatery.
