GETTYSBURG, PA.  As we started the motorhome engine this morning, things did not seem to work right.  The engine displayed a couple error icons but allowed me to pull the Jeep up the steep incline that was our site for the night.  Things seemed to settle down as we reached level ground, so we departed for Gettysburg.  As we got about halfway along the route, many error icons began to display, then go off, then come back on.
This Really Got Our Attention
Another message was "Service Engine Soon!"  We Googled for the nearest Freightliner service center and found one along the route, located in Harrisburg.  That is pretty near Gettysburg.

We stopped at the Freightliner center, but due to its being Saturday, only a small crew was there.  Someone ran diagnostics hooked up to the motorhome computer and found what the text display implied:  communication trouble between the engine and chassis.  Could be as simple as a loose wire, but finding which wire that is could be demanding.  We made an appointment for Monday morning to return when the specialist for that kind of problem would be present.  That ruins our plans to spend Monday seeing the sights around Gettysburg, but at least we have time available to use for this.

It was an act of faith to continue driving the motorhome at that point, but as we continued our drive to Gettysburg, the error icons and warning text disappeared.  We would have arrived here at the Gettysburg Campground around 1:30 or 2:00 pm if there had been no trouble, but as it turned out, we arrived around 4:00 pm.  There has been a lot of rain here, and the grounds are wet with many large puddles.  No autumn colors here due to a prolonged stretch of hard rain and wind.

We called old friends from St Augustine, Elmer and Marge Bley, who once lived in Baltimore.  When he answered the phone, he lost no time in offering to take us to a place that serves blue crabs.  I naturally accepted, so by 6:30 he and his wife will be coming by to pick us up.  Sounds like a nice ending to a stressful day.  Tomorrow we shall join them for services at their church.
